In the article possibilities of development of ecological tourism within the administrative areas of the Republic of Buryatia are considered. Resources for the development of ecological tourism in the country are natural recreational facilities, which include unique natural land scapes, natural attractions that have the status of natural monuments, flora and fauna, water sources, mineral water and mud deposits. Natural and climatic conditions, features of the national composition, various religions and beliefs all this imposes an imprint on the formation of a range of tourist services, including the development of industries and types of ecological tourism in our republic. At the modem level of development of tourism and recreation in the Baikal region, the most important are: the allocation, justification, evaluation of various types and forms of recreational activities, each of which has specific features and a different geographic location. Ecological tourism is the most popular and most beneficial area of tourism and recreational activities, since it does not cause significant damage to the ecological state of the natural and anthropogenic landscapes of the Baikal region. Ecological tourism can become an important element of socio-economic development and an instrument for protecting the nature of the region, but this activity should be developed on new environmental principles, as well as in the framework of appropriate organizational arrangements that ensure effective control over this area of activity.
