The purpose of the article is to identify the prospects for the development of the Russian IT sector in the context of the ongoing process of digitalization and the impact of external shocks, such as the consequences of the coronacrisis and the effect of sanctions restrictions. The research uses methods of analysis, generalization and systematization in relation to the development of the information technology sector. The information basis for this is the results of scientific research, analytical and expert information. In the course of the study, the current state of development of the information technology sector in the Russian Federation was determined. Special emphasis is placed on the analysis of the changes that have occurred in the functioning of the Russian information technology sector after the start of a special military operation since February 2022. The drivers of the growth of the information technology sector in Russia are identified, the difficulties and problems hindering the successful development of the Russian information technology sector are indicated. The main approaches to the support of the Russian information technology sector by the state are identified and systematized. It is concluded that, despite the unprecedented sanctions restrictions and the consequences of the exit from the coronacrisis, in the near future we should expect an increase in the share and role of the IT sector in the country’s economy. This is facilitated by the drivers of the development of the industry, the action of which is combined with the processes taking place in society and external to the information technology sector - negative macroeconomic factors, the actions of sanctions and restrictions, the consequences of the coronacrisis. In this situation, the state takes a strategically correct position, regulating the process of interaction between various parties and providing measures to support the industry. It should be assumed that this will have a positive impact on the strategic perspective of the development of the industry.
