Prospects of foreign language textbook theory development

The article considers the possibility and purposefulness of singling out a separate theoretical area - the theory of the subject tutorial - in the framework of the general theory of the textbook. The author indicates that a sufficient amount of works have been written on the matter. However, the dominating objects of the scientific study, as research shows, are individual structural elements of the textbook or its content components. A prevailing number of the existing studies describe peculiarities of a foreign language textbook created within a particular method / teaching concept. A foreign language textbook is regarded as a product of the established methodical system. The properties of this system influence the content and structure of the textbook, define its characteristics. This, in turn, contributes to the realization of the principle of educational variability. Implementation of the two leading vectors of the state educational policy - the unity of educational space and standardization of education is possible through an in depth elaboration of the unified concept of a foreign language textbook for high schools and formulation of invariant characteristics of the subject textbook. The theory of the subject textbook is intended to describe the functions and principles of the foreign language textbook development, to fix universal requirements for its content and structure. If the general theory of the textbook gives a description at the meta-subject level, the theory of the subject textbook should be an indicative basis for the projection and evaluation of the quality of a foreign language textbook.
