Prospects for tourism development in economically depressed region (case study of the Republic of Buryatia)

The article examines the development of tourism at Lake Baikal area: state support, organization and management of the tourist and recreation industry in the region. The current state of the industry is analyzed and a short-term forecast of the tourist flow is developed basing on statistical methods and expert estimates. The dynamics of the tourist infrastructure growth, i.e. accommodation facilities, hotels, is shown. Proposals for improving the mechanism of public-private partnership in the depressed area with unique natural resources, which allow providing the infrastructure development of the tourism industry in the Republic of Buryatia, are given.
