Prospects for deepening humanitarian cooperation between the twin cities of Shanghai and St. Petersburg

Since 2019, Russia and China have intensified efforts to establish comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation. One of the ways to ensure communication and cooperation between countries is the twinning of cities. Being the largest political, economic and cultural centers of China and Russia, Shanghai and St. Petersburg, having the status of twin cities, provide humanitarian cooperation between the two countries in terms of promoting the national cultures of the Chinese and Russian peoples, popularizing ethnic values, strengthening ties between citizens of the two states. The establishment of friendly relations between Shanghai and St. Petersburg is an important diplomatic tool. The article examines the prospects and possibilities of deepening humanitarian cooperation between these megacities through comparative analysis, and formulates proposals for the further development of cooperation between Russia and China.
