The concept of "glaucoma" includes diseases that combine certain clinical signs. These include: optical neuropathy, typical changes in the function of vision (loss of the central field of vision and peripheral), atrophy (excavation) of the optic nerve disc, increased intraocular pressure. In the case of primary angle-closure glaucoma, the factor affecting the increase in IOP becomes a blockage (complete or partial) of the outflow of intraocular fluid due to the overlap of the angle of the anterior chamber by the root of the iris or due to the pupillary block. The disease occurs in people over 40 years of age, and over the years its frequency only increases, accounting for about 20-30% of all detected cases of primary glaucoma. Women are diagnosed with it 4 times more often than men. Primary angle-closure glaucoma is especially common among residents of Southeast Asia, Eskimos, and Chinese. Pathology has a genetically determined nature of inheritance, therefore, first-line relatives have a very high risk of the disease due to predisposing anatomical features of the structure of the organ of vision. Extremely rarely, angle-closure glaucoma develops in people with myopia; people with hypermetropic refraction are more susceptible to it.
