A pioneering study on application of Khuri myocardium pH monitoring system when performing cardiac surgery in infants

This article looks at the application of controlled PH-monitoring of myocardium and on-line measurement of the latter's temperature by using the Khuri monitoring system. To compare the degree of myocardial protection while managing congenital heart diseases (CHD) under extracorporeal circulation in infants, use is made of a crystalloid chemical/hypothermic cardioplegia method (CCHCP) and «Custodiol» solution. The clinical data obtained is based on the observations of 2 patients aged 14 and 17 months with a ventricular septal defect (VSD) and an atrial septal defect (ASD) who were treated by CCHCP and 1 patient aged 2 years and 7 months with VSD + mitral insufficiency (Ml) who received «Custodiol» solution.
