Petrograd in the life of the japanologist Sergej Eliseev (Serge Elisseff)

The article narrates about life and activities of the outstanding orientalist, the japanologist S. Eliseev (S. Elisséeff) in Petrograd during 1914-1920 between his return from Japan and his emigration from Russia. Еliseev's diaries and letters as well as the other written sources of that period from St. Petersburg archives are being analysed. A number of Eliseev's life events and his social environment are restored thanks to these sources. Petrograd of the first years of the Soviets seen with Eliseev's eyes is presented in this article.
