The article is devoted to the systemic inheritance of S. T. Aksakov of the traditions of the 18th century, the diversity of the writer's successive ties with the work of his predecessors. The paper deals with the merger of literature and reality in the works of S. T. Aksakov's, which opened new forms for art. The author analyzes the literary memory of the writer, which is a psychological and aesthetic category that establishes successive and historical-functional links between literary works of different eras, the personal reading experience of the writer, which forms his literary memory, the reading circle, which is of particular importance in the life and work of the writer. As the researchers note, reading fiction is not only a spiritual need for a writer, but also a professionally significant activity. Based on the data obtained, it can be noted that an example of creative memory is the memory of art. The article notes the special role of literature in the context of Russian culture of the 18th century. Literature shaped the reader, reading became the main form of education. The author analyzed the role of N. M. Karamzin in the education of the Russian reader. The reading memory of the writer was presented in the literature of sentimentalism intentionally and deliberately. Reading formed not only a way of thinking, but also a way of life. In the literature of sentimentalism, characters served as role models for readers. The reading circle became a way of characterizing the hero. At the end of the 18th century, reading became the most important element of culture and everyday life.
