Resque excavations were carried out in the historical part of Vladimir on Klyazma known as Pecherny gorod. The cultural deposit has been investigated within a significant area, as a result it became possible to suggest a reconstruction of topography and planning system of this medieval capital city. In the mid 12 th c. its planning system was of linear-transversal character with the central street going in north-eastern direction from the Golden Gates along the city parallel to the Klyazma River. The transverse streets approached this arterial road from the north. Two streets 5 and 7 m wide were revealed in the north-western part of Pecherny gorod. Town-plots situated along the transverse streets functioned for a long time, their borders marked by the traces of palisade fences. The planning system was changed in the second part of the 15 th - early 16 th c. The streets acquired orientation from NNW to SSE, which existed till XIX c.
