Selection of materials for the manufacture of the milling machine spindle using the Ansys program

According to the recommendations, the following materials are used for the spindles of CNC machines: 40ХГР (40XGR), 18ХГТ (18XGT), 12ХН3А (12KHN3A), however, these materials have alloying elements in their composition, which increases the cost of the material. Therefore, it was decided to consider cheaper materials such as 50 and 50X and compare them with the recommended 12KHN3A. The ANSYS software allows you to solve many engineering problems by the finite element method. This article examines the influence of the material on the results of strength calculation and modal analysis of the milling machine spindle after applying heat load in order to determine the most rational option in terms of material costs for the spindle material.
