Approaches to studying motivation to participate in volunteer practices

The article is devoted to the main approaches to studying the volunteer motivation. Nowadays, within the social studies of the phenomenon of volunteering, there is no consensus on the motives that determine the occupation of a person by volunteering. The analysis of the literature makes it possible to distinguish several approaches to measuring volunteer motivation. The research area has being changed due to the development of knowledge about the phenomenon, on the one hand, and the examination of motivations to various activities, on the other hand. To date, a body of approaches has been formed to identify more and less significant factors for people to decide to work as a volunteer. The research results of the approaches to studying motivation to participate in volunteer practices lead to the conclusion that volunteerism and volunteer motivation are a complex phenomenon which manifests itself at the individual level of the personality. Moreover, it is possible to determine different types of motivation: individual, social, multidimensional one.
