The paper considers various approaches to modeling of the dynamics of forest ecosystems that have formed by present. Basic types of models and their characteristics are shown. It is provided a detailed classification of the tree community models according to the elaboration degree, and their brief description. It is considered the most perspective directions for the development of forest models.
