Approaches to intellectual capital management

Intellectual capital management is a new scientifi c direction in economics, claiming its own scientifi c school – this hypothesis is debatable. Since there are those who will argue that it makes no sense to single out issues on intellectual capital in a separate direction, but it is worth studying the subject by its components in various existing sciences. Intellectual capital is a collective, intangible concept that is diffi cult to describe due to its interdisciplinary nature. Nevertheless, the importance of intellectual capital in the modern world is undeniable, since its effective use ensures the competitiveness of economic entities. The development of the theory and methodology of intellectual capital management requires registration in a separate direction of science. The article is based on domestic and foreign studies, using methods of analysis, synthesis and systems approach. It is concluded that intellectual capital is a complex socio-economic system that cannot be quantifi ed. Mathematical methods can be applied to individual components of the system. In conditions of a defi cit of intellectual capital, it is necessary to develop theoretical and methodological foundations of management using an institutional approach and systems analysis.
