Genuinnes and fantasy in the reflection of the narrator in A.N. Radishchev “Journey from St. Petersburg to Moscow”

The article examines the metafictional commentary of the primary and secondary narrators based on the value of authenticity in the architectonics of “Journey”. The levels of reality, the physical chronotope in which the journey and its events take place, reflection, intellectual reaction to the events of the journey, and metareflexion, comments on the intellectual reaction are indicated. In the “Journey”, the image of reflection, as well as a sensual reaction, is the major theme. But modeling of the reader’s reception is required for the successful implementation of literature communication. It is carried out at the metareflexive level, which includes metafictional comments. In the article metafictional comments are divided into fictional metafictional comments, such comments that expose the artificiality and literariness of the text. Fictio metafictional comments are also highlighted - mainly programmatic judgments, digressions offering conditions for successful reading of the text, achieving its meaning. The first type of comments leaves the primary narrator, expressing them in episodes of auctorial narrative, through metalepsis, in a playful way. The text of the article contains three such comments, relating respectively to the levels of narrative verbalization, authorial reflection, and literary convention expressed in the text. Fictio metafictional comments are left by both primary and secondary narrators, they outline the role of imagination, empathy, sensibility in the perception of the work, and indicate the semantic value of the authenticity of the act. The statements laid out in the “Oration about Lomonosov” play a distinct role, in particular, the concept of language expressed by the secondary narrator and the description of the life of the individual mind in Lomonosov’s intellectual biography. “Oration” comments on the most important themes of the entire work.
