The article shows an account of the contribution of the residents of the Moscow-region city of Zagorsk to victory in the Great Patriotic War. Several important devel-opments were directly connected to the St. Sergius Trinity Lavra, whose grounds housed a museum, an air defense observation post, a hospital, and even, for a time, the Academy of Arts. It was in Zagorsk that the renowned 1st Shock Army was formed – a unit that played a critical role in the defense of Moscow. Special attention is given to the organization of the evacuation of museum treasures deep into the country, as well as to the relocation of two factories producing military goods. Finally, the city is tied to the conceptualization and creation of the iconic painting Letter from the Front — a symbol of the long-awaited victory the entire nation yearned for. The concluding focus is the revival of church life, the reopening of the male monastery, and the resto-ration of theological schools at the renowned monastery.
