This article discusses some episodes of the Church and the political life of Russia of the XIV century. The role of different religious and political forces in these events is shown, participation of St. Sergius of Radonezh is analyzed, their implications for the political future of Russia are highlighted, the role of the Russian Orthodox Church and St. Sergius of Radonezh as one of its most authoritative representatives of the XIV century are displayed in the strengthening of the unity of the Russian land, creating a single state, and the preparation of the preconditions for solving of the most urgent political problems of the era - the release.
