The article is dedicated to the question of the appearance of the Christ Emmanuel image in the paintings of small domes of five-domed Uspensky Cathedrals XVI-XVII centuries. The article traces the building up of the independent composition of Christ Emmanuel and the reasons why this composition was included in the system of dome painting of five-domed churches.
