The poetic word of the people in the creativity of I.S. Shmelev

The connection of creativity with the deep foundations of folk life was manifested in the writer's enduring interest in the traditions of Russian folklore. In his art Shmelev turned to folk poetic plots, motives, images, genres. Folk songs, proverbs, sayings, riddles, fabulous images and motives, beliefs and signs, jokes, teasers, children's countings, divination - all these were organically inscribed in his artistic work of «The Summer of the Lord» (1933 -1948). In the tale «Preobrazhenetz» (1919) the folklore motives of the loss compensation and attempts of gaining the lost is associated with the subject of devoid of searches vector. The story «The Letter of the young Cossack» (1925) is a rare example of stylization as one of the ways of mastering folklore. By content and tone this work is focused on the wailing or complaint genre, however, it combines the characteristics of the funeral lamenting and household mournings. At the same time, the image of the story protagonist by its ideal qualities is comparable to the epic hero.
