An indicator of working capacity of casting molds and cores made of synthetic sand mixtures with account of physical parameters

The paper considers the strength of casting molds and cores, that is proposed to be characterized by the indicator of working capacity. Expressions for determining the indicator of working capacity Rb of molds and cores made from synthetic sand mixtures are obtained taking into account fractal dimension of the aggregate mixture Fr, the coefficient of heterogeneity of the mixture strength m in different parts of molds (cores) and the Grüneisen parameter GrL. It is found that the indicator of working capacity should be within Rb 1,5-3,0 depending on the design and shape of molds and cores. This will provide production of molds and cores, prevent their destruction during transportation and guarantee production of high-quality castings. The developed method of estimation of service properties of molds and cores considering fractal dimension, anharmonicity and heterogeneity of the strength characteristics of mixtures allows setting an indicator of working capacity of mold as a structure at the stage of engineering calculation and process design of mold shaping and filling.
