Trends and rates of socio-economic development of both the Russian Federation and individual regions depend on a large number of factors (indicators). Official statistics provide data on more than 100 indicators. Some of the indicators have a significant impact on the standard of living of the population in the regions and are perceived as the main indicators that practically generally reflect the achieved level of socio-economic development of the region (for example, gross regional product), while other indicators are not so sensitive and do not have such a direct effect (for example, the number of visits to museums, graduation of specialists, etc.). The main principles in conducting a comprehensive assessment of the level of socio-economic development of the region: the complexity of the assessment, which ensures that all the most important components of indicators of the level of development of the subject are taken into account, the systemic assessment, which involves taking into account the relationship between basic indicators and characteristics of regional development, the maximum information content of the results of assessing the development of regions, providing the possibility of adopting optimal decisions at the federal and regional levels. The subject of the study is the analysis of indicators characterizing the level of socio-economic development of the regions, and indicators of the quality of life of the population of the region, their relationship. The methodology of the study is based on the use of the results of the rating of the socio-economic situation of the subjects of the Russian Federation and the rating of the quality of life in the regions (conducted annually by the Rating Agency “RIA Rating” of the media group “Russia Today” using official data from the Federal State Statistics Service, the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, the Federal Tax Service of Russia, etc.). Two regions were selected as the object of the study: Perm Region and Nizhny Novgorod Region, which occupy a leading position in the ranking of socio-economic development among the regions of the Volga Federal District. The study found that the level of socio-economic development of the regions affects the quality of the inhabitants of this region; there is a close relationship between the indicators used in the respective ratings. At the same time, taking high places in the ranking of the socio-economic situation of the subjects of the Russian Federation, the region may have unsatisfactory places in the ranking of the quality of life of the population in the region.
