“Greetings from Peter Maria”: to a question about the dissemination of literacy among women in XI-XV century

This article is devoted to the analysis of spread of the women’s literacy in Russia in 11th - 15th century. The material for the analysis was chosen birch bark letters, addressed or compiled by women. The following criteria were considered: the number, geography, subjects, as well as the age and social status of the authors and addressees of the letters.
