The article discusses the emergence of the term "hippie", the main ideological postulates of this counterculture. Special attention is paid to the movement's contribution to modern culture. The hippie movement is interpreted as a youth counterculture, which, in addition to deep social protest, rallied around the musical direction of rock and roll.
