Generation Z: theoretical aspect

The article is devoted to the understanding and analysis of the characteristics of the representatives of Generation Z on the basis of modern psychological research of “digital children”. The relevance of the research is proved. The author presents the view of scientists who consider the younger generation as the research object. The article presents the concepts of the generational theory of American scientists Neil Howe and William Strauss, which was scientifically grounded in 1991. We summarize the information about significant events of each generation (Generation GI, Silent Generation, Baby Boomers, Generation X, Y and Z) affecting the formation of values and attitudes of people of this era. The interpretation of the generational theory in modern Russia developed by V.I. Pischik is presented. It is stated that the subjects of the modern educational process today are representatives of Generation Z (preschoolers, primary school children andsecondary school pupils in 5-11th grades). The author analyzes specific and unique features of Generation Z identifying the most striking features of modern children and adolescents and considering the interrelation of generations in the context of their influence on each other. The author concludes that modern researchers from different scientific fields face difficult tasks to study the features of the generation of “digital children” and monitor their transformation in the future, use new forms, methods and means of psychological and pedagogical influence, and modernize the educational process.
