Useful sulfurorganic chemistry

Sulfur-containing compounds are widespread in nature and are objects of numerous researches of synthetic chemistry. Fields of application of both natural and synthetic sulfur-containing compounds are pharmacology and medicine, organic synthesis, technical equipment, agriculture. Numerous works have been conducted in the Laboratory of Chemistry of Oxidizing Processes of the Institute of Chemistry (Komi Science Centre, Ural Branch, RAS) on chemistry of sulfurcontaining compounds: effective methods of synthesis of sulfides, sulfoxides, sulfones, thiolanes are developed. Optimum conditions for hemo- and enantioselective oxidation of sulfides into corresponding sulfoxides are selected. It is shown that chlorine dioxide is a selective and universal oxidizer of sulfurcontaining compounds. Pharmacological activity in for the first time synthesized sulfur-containing compounds with therpens fragments is found out. The technology of processing of sulphatic turpentine is suggested.
