Police of the Federal Republic of Somalia: current state and structure

Introduction. The police in Somalia is the main law enforcement agency. The tasks of the Somali police are not much different from the tasks performed by police agencies in most countries of the world. These include the fight against crime (including its prevention), ensuring public safety and road safety, counter-terrorism activities. Materials and methods. The normative basis of the study is international legislation, national legislation of the Federal Republic of Somalia. The study examined materials of legislative and law enforcement activities reflecting the trends of state-building in Somalia in the field of security, as well as the works of scientists studying the problems of international cooperation in the fight against crime. The methodological basis of the study was general scientific and special methods of cognition. Research results. The author came to the conclusion that the structure of the modern Somalia police meets criminal challenges. State-building of the revived Somalia is impossible without an effective law enforcement system, of which the police are a part. Findings and conclusions. The Somalia police are entrusted not only with the responsibilities of combating crime, maintaining public order and ensuring public safety, but also with the responsibilities of protecting the state border, executing court decisions, and guarding penitentiary institutions. International organizations play an important role in ensuring the functioning of the police.
