Multiethnic region in contemporary research discourse

The paper provides an analysis of approaches to studying a multiethnic region. Studies of polyethnicity as a qualitative characteristic of a region are multi-faceted and manifold; it actualizes a methodological analysis, made by the authors. Present-day discourse in multiethnic region studies stems from such methods as substantiality, constructivism, phenomenology, symbolism, sociological and managerial approach. By applying these methods, a region is represented as an integrative life medium with a multicultural model of interaction. Due to migration processes, the interaction model has a complex, contradictory, multidirectional potential. Multiethnic nature of Russian regions which arouses a mixed response of the part of the recipient population, calls for a search of an optimum management model based on conceptualization of scientific approaches, principles, patterns and trends in ethno-national policy aimed at creation and maintaining of a tolerant, united social medium.
