Statement of the problem. The multimodality of modern educational materials, ensuring the effectiveness of the subject teaching process, requires the future foreign language teacher to have practical ability to work with multimodal and multicode authentic texts, which, as a rule, is not taken into account in the process of its preparation. Training on working with various types of polycode texts (multimedia storytelling, educational longread, a set of multimodal exercises) helps to solve this problem, according to the authors of the article. The purpose of the article is to present the authors’ recommendations on the use of a multimodal approach in the field of preparing a future foreign language teacher to work with polycode texts. Methodology (materials and methods). The methodology is based on the concept of implementing a multimodal approach to teaching a future foreign language teacher (V.A. Omelianenko, M.V. Zagidullina, V.V. Makhova, M. Dobstadt, K. Herzig, R. Riedner); theoretical and methodological foundations of using polycode text in learning a foreign language (V.A. Sentsova, N.V. Novospasskaya, N.M. Dugalich, A.P. Guseva, O.M. Kunitsyna, A. Weinberger, C. Hartmann, L.J. Kataja); practice-oriented studies examining polycode and multimodal text from the point of view of the theory of multimodality (S.F. Galkina, G.R. Garipova, E.O. Kuzmina, A.A. Kirillovykh, J. Jialin, S. Dorgerloh, K. Wolf, C.M. Ersch, M. Grein, S. Rajendram, etc.). Research results. As part of the study, the essence of the concept of ‘polycode text’ was clarified and techniques for working with various types of polycode texts were identified. A set of tasks to ensure a multimodal approach to the training of future foreign language teachers, developed by the authors of the article, includes a description of techniques for working with such types of polycode texts as a web comic, an Internet meme, a meme advisor, a motivator postcard (demotivator), and audio advertising.
