Political activity of Yusuf Akchura in the Russian Empire (1904-1908): on the specifics of Muslim liberalism

This article analyzes the political life of Yusuf Akchura at the dawn and during the first Russian revolution (1904-1908), marked by the highest political mobilization and mobility that shaped the fate and outcome of the Russian political modernization. Analysing Yusuf Akchura's political activity, it shows how Russian Muslim citizens dealt with liberal ideas and concepts. The paper reveals the peculiarities of liberal public and political unions formation and the relationship between the Muslim political elite and the leaders of constitutional-democratic party prior and during the first years of the Russian Parliament (1906-1907).
