The authors present the results of their research on the political identity of the youth of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) in terms of the development of modern Russian federalism. The paper considers the main theoretical approaches to studying the essence of federalism, the impact of ethnic and cultural factors on it. The research describes the concept of federalism as an ideology having such an important component as the establishment of a federalist political culture. To solve this problem, the authors investigate the inclusion of people in politics, namely, political socialization. The study identifies the development stages of federative relations in Russia and the role of ethnic republics in the system of relations between the center and the regions. It determines the context of political socialization and youth identity in the ethnic republic of Yakutia. The basic values of the youth political identity are reviewed as an element of political consciousness. The researchers conclude that in the context of political socialization and the lack of clear social and political guidelines, the youth of Yakutia focuses on the state paternalistic model of relations with the state awaiting help and support from it.
