V. I. Lenin is still an important personality of the Russian history of XX century who cannot be buried in the oblivion. Also no one can find the ways of his demonization and canonization. To understand the views of this politician, the author focuses on Lenin's texts at a tipping point of the Russian history, when the Soviet regime was estsblished and Russian Social Democratic Labor Party was the leading party in that period. The article analyses the views of the leader of the ruling Bolshevik-communist party on the overarching issues of Russian life in the late 1917 - early 1918. In that period he was concerned about such problems as the prospects of Socialist revolution, interrelations with the parties supporting the Soviet regime, particularly with the left Socialists-Revolutionaries, building the model of entirely new marketless economics, as well as the presence of people in the party taking right post close to Mencheviks. It was the Lenin's views of the strategic and current aspects that determined the political practice of that period. They included the attitude to the formal democracy, world revolution, and other soviet parties. The article presents V. I. Lenin as a determined and pragmatic politician who did not follow the dogmas of the formal democracy.
