Political views of George (Gappo) V. Baev (1905-1917)

The author considers the political views of the prominent specimen of the Ossetian intellectuals and social activist George V. Baev (1869-1939). G. Baev was a staunch liberal, who saw the democratic reforms as the only way to create a stable constitutional state. Analysis of the economic and political papers of G.V. Baev allows fixing the progressive character of his ideas (such as the ideas of the mandatory state support for agriculture, creation of peasant cooperatives, introduction of zemstvo in the Terek region). Moreover, many of his ideas still have not lost their importance and can be used for the economic development and local government in contemporary Russia.
