The Massification Policy of Artistic Culture in the USSR: Propaganda, Popu-larization, Enlightenment

The Soviet political leadership paid much attention to the massification of artistic culture. The Communist Party considered art as an instrument of political influence, cultural and aesthetic education of the masses. As a result, in written sources there are examples of Soviet authoritative discourse, in other words, the language of power, there are often discussions about cultural enlightenment, political propaganda by means of art, as well as the popularization of artistic culture. The concepts of “popularization”, “enlightenment” and “propaganda” in the context of art dissemination among the working masses, according to the author, were among the most common words in the language of Soviet politicians. The aim of the article is an attempt to establish the usage features of these categories in the language of Soviet power. It is concluded that these concepts in relation to art in Soviet mass political communication became synonymous, but they retained minor differences in meanings.
