The article examines the policy pursued by the USSR inside the country and towards the Warsaw Pact countries, using the example of the People’s Republic of Hungary as an example. The article focuses on the economic development of Hungary and the reforms undertaken by the country’s communist leadership in the period after the Second World War and before the Hungarian Uprising of 1956. The article uses analyses of the event by foreign journals and Hungary’s economic performance in the period in question.
