Political and democratic evolution of Taiwan in the XX century

The article analyzes the political situation in Taiwan and its impact on the relations between the two countries. The aim of the article is to evaluate and compare the statements of the leaders of the main political parties and the measures taken by them to solve the problem of the status of the island and its relations with the mainland. The author investigates the policy of Taiwan’s leadership in relation to the foreign Chinese in the XX century. There is paid special attention to political initiatives that have had a great impact on the relations with the mainland China.
