The article deals with the polyvariant functioning of the lexeme “grey” and its derivatives in the prose of V. Shalamov and V. Shukshin. There are analyzed the sense and emotional and expressive transformations of the colour word “grey” connected with its semantic ambivalency. There is conducted the comparative analysis of the use of the colour name “grey” in the prose of V. Shalamov and V. Shukshin.
