The polish insurgents in the Vladimir prison company: unsuccessful experience

The article deals with the issue of the Polish insurgents detention in the Vladimir prison company of the civil department in 1863-1865. The conditions of their stay in the company, the problems of involving them into internal and external work are described. Based on the materials of the sources used, it is concluded that it was impossible to achieve the goal of this type of punishment - the correction of those prisoners, and the consequences of the authorities’ “liberal flirtation” with the Poles are shown.
