The article deals with the problem of water pollution by the natural trace element strontium. The relevance of purification of reservoirs from strontium in connection with the negative effect of strontium ions on the human body and animals is revealed. The advantages of using seaweed as biosorbents are given. A method of surface modification of algae is described in order to increase the number of functional groups in the composition of algae. The IR spectroscopy method proved the occurrence of functional groups in the composition of sorbents. Sorption experiments were carried out under static conditions. The values of the static exchange capacities of the obtained samples with respect to strontium ions are calculated. The prospect of using sorbents in various fields of science is described.
