The article traces the biography of S.G. Sidorov and shows his teaching and scientific and administrative activities. It is noted that the professional foundations of the future teaching and scientific work of S.G. Sidorov were laid at the history faculty of the Saratov State University named after N.G. Chernyshevsky, which he graduated from in 1981. Since 1986, S.G. Sidorov has been working at Volgograd State University. For many years, he combined teaching historical disciplines with administrative and research work. Almost immediately after coming to the university, S.G. Sidorov was appointed vice-rector for correspondence and evening education. Three years later, he was transferred to the position of vice-rector for academic work, in which he worked for almost 25 years. Subsequently, for another two years, he was the head of the Department of Russian History. He contributed to the training of highly qualified specialists – graduates of the university. S.G. Sidorov is a leading specialist in the history of the Great Patriotic War and the history of military captivity. He is the author of the first comprehensive study on the use of the labor of prisoners of war of the Second World War in the national economy of the USSR in 1939–1956. He took an active part in the 6-volume publication of documents and materials “Prisoners of War in the USSR, 1939–1956.” Since 2009, S.G. Sidorov has headed the Dissertation Council for Historical Sciences at Volgograd State University. From 2014 to 2020, he was the organizer of the international scientific conferences “Military History of Russia: Problems, Searches, Solutions.” By now, S.G. Sidorov has completed work on a monograph dedicated to the 45th anniversary of Volgograd University and continues to work on a book on the history of the Svetloyarskiy District of the Volgograd Region.
