The paper presents semantics of the concept honor in perception of Russian officers in the period between 1805 and 1814. The work is based on the following sources: dictionaries, essays, letters, memoirs. It should be noted that the concept honor was used in the official ideology. Both official and officer’s interpretations of the concept honor are compared in the paper. Semantics of the concept honor is revealed on the basis of the analysis of the concept nobleness. The concept honor in perception of Russian officers was connected with the concepts generosity and service, and it was close in the meaning to the concept dignity (in the sense of “self-respect”). In contrast to official interpretation, Russian officers considered honor an inherent characteristic of a person.
