The concept and principles of building a punishment system in Russian criminal law

The scientific concepts and basic principles of the development of the mechanism of punishment in the Russian criminal legislation are analyzed. The punishment system is proposed to be understood not only as a legally established and mandatory list of various types of punishments, ranging from milder to more severe, but also the legal consequences of committing a crime aimed at achieving certain important social goals, such as restoring justice, rehabilitating convicts and preventing them from re-committing crimes. As noted in the article, one of the key principles in the formation of the punishment system in the Russian Federation is the observance of the principle of justice in determining their relative severity.
