The concept of multimodal transportation services as a system

The article discusses the main features of the concept of multimodal transportation services. Is presented the different theoretical approaches to the interpretation of this term. Are identified the reasons for the differences between the terms «combined» transport from multimodal transport services. Is presented the Russian practice of using the concept of «mixed traffic». Particular attention is paid to distinctive features of multimodal transportation as a system, which indicate that multimodal transport involves the integration of interrelated elements of the entire transport service chain.
