The article provides a comprehensive study of the legal essence of the term «legal values». The content of this concept is disclosed in detail. It is emphasised that "legal values" are to some extent characterised by the presence of a prescriptive nature, which to a large extent determines their specificity. This is expressed in their ability to serve as the basis for the formulation of legal norms that prescribe certain behaviours and activities. Not least, the article clarifies the distinction between 'legal values' and 'values in law', which contributes to the clear and accurate use of these terms in the context of the research. This aspect provides a more accurate understanding and interpretation of the phenomenon in question within the framework of legal science.
