Epidemiological characteristics of acute coronary syndrome among urban population of the moderately urbanized city of Western Siberia

The article presents data of comparative analysis of dynamic changes in incidence rates for acute coronary syndrome and its components such as acute myocardial infarction (MI) and unstable angina in 20-70-year-old population of Tomsk city in 2003-2004. The study was performed using the standard methodology of the WHO Acute Myocardial Infarction Registry Program and the approach developed by the authors for studying the unstable angina epidemiology. Our data showed that MI incidence rates did not change during the analyzed period while unstable angina incidence significantly increased in all age and sex groups leading to increase in acute coronary syndrome incidence from 3.34 to 3.82 per 1000 population in 2003 and 2004, respectively (p
