The article presents the mechanism of party control over the mood and behavior of military personnel under the conditions of demobilization and difficult transition to a peacetime status, conducted in conditions of post-war devastation and shortage of the most necessary things. The State Archive of Contemporary History of the Irkutsk Region preserved documents of the party organization of the regional military commissariat, which clearly show how the Communists suppressed “unhealthy moods”. For example, in 1948, officers were severely criticized for their “overindulgence” with private subsistence farming, their avoidance of social life, and their living “on the outskirts” from the district center. As an example, the situation of the Kuytun District Military Commissar, Major Grigory Dmitrievich Korenkovich, is considered. The main information from his biography, the remarks he said on the asset are given. It is emphasized that this officer's behavior illustrates the postwar compromise between securing acceptable living conditions for himself and his family and the necessity of conforming to the inconsistent demands of the party leadership.
