The article attempts to identify the most general ontognoseological foundations of contemporary transhumanism as ideology and quasi-religion. It is noted that despite certain religious and philosophical parallels between this worldview and the previous ones influenced by the humanistic tradition, transhumanism cannot be considered its successor. This is because transhumanism seeks to dismantle the entire sociocultural foundation of contemporary society, offering instead poorly substantiated notions of an immortal human and their carefree future, whose realization becomes attainable through technological development. According to the author, the emergence of the transhumanist movement was determined by the entire course of socio-historical development, as evidenced by centuriesold predictions (one of N. A. Berdyaev’s predictions is discussed). However this does not indicate a succession in the process, but shows that having made quite a conscious choice, humanity took the path of worldviews involution, the logical outcome of which is the dehumanization and de-Christianization of collective consciousness. Therefore, the primary task of our time is to clearly define the society’s attitude towards the phenomenon of transhumanism and actively resist it, because a constructive worldview dialogue is inappropriate and impossible in this case.
