The article considers some issues of designing a dual system of training engineering personnel aimed at developing general professional knowledge, skills, abilities and a number of highly specialized practice-oriented competencies in students. It characterizes priority activities of modern engineers for divisions of enterprises engaged in innovative activities (development of innovative products) in the field of nuclear instrumentation. It reveals the potential of using a single digital information environment “university - enterprise” as a means of accelerated formation of professional competencies of future engineers. The article presents mechanisms and technologies for implementing a partnership program for training engineers in the context of an educational scientific and industrial cluster “university - high-tech organization” using the example of the National Research Nuclear University “MEPhI” of the All-Russian Research Institute of Automation named after N.L. Dukhov (an enterprise of the State Corporation “Rosatom”).
