Construction of solutions to the equation of vibrations of a beam with a variable cross-section

A selective survey of the initial-boundary eigenvalue problem for the differential equation of oscillations of a beam with a varying section is presented in the paper. The case of a linearly varying section is considered and solutions of the beam oscillation equation for various cases are presented with the use of the Bessel, Hankel, McDonald functions and hypergeometric functions.
