The spread of the new coronavirus infection in 2020 and the associated self-isolation regime have led to a sharp decrease in traffic volumes and an increase in the costs of rail passenger carriers. However, despite the negative consequences of the pandemic, the prolonged closure of the borders of many foreign countries gave impetus to the development of domestic tourism, including rail. The article discusses the technology of using direct cars in passenger tourist trains as one of the possible measures to accelerate the recovery of pre-crisis traffic volumes, as well as to increase the popularity and accessibility of railway tourism for residents of various regions of Russia.
