The authors aim to present contemporary theories of consumption in Western sociology. It is an immutable fact that each of the theoretical models under consideration which describes the consumer society is based on certain assumptions about social reality and individuals, and therefore interprets consumer behaviour in a limited way. The construction of a theoretical model for the study of consumption patterns needs to be built on a conceptual synthesis of approaches related to theories of everyday life. Consumption should be seen as the circulation of production, distribution of goods and services, access to and possession of various goods. Judgment about consumption tastes is particularly relevant in contemporary society, as social change is often brought about by advertising, marketing, and other media. Theoretical development of existing models of description contributes to the correct sociological optics for studying consumer culture in non-Western countries such as Russia, China, India, Indonesia, etc.
